MPW earns prestigious Grainger award

In recognition of its contributions to American manufacturing, MPW Industrial Services accepted an Award of Excellence from W.W. Grainger on November 11.

W.W. Grainger, Inc. is a business-to-business distributor of products used to maintain, repair and operate facilities. Approximately 3 million businesses and institutions worldwide rely on Grainger for products such as safety gloves, ladders, motors and janitorial supplies. More than 4,800 key manufacturers supply Grainger with 1.5 million products stocked in Grainger’s distribution centers and branches.

Each October, Grainger recognizes companies in the United States for excellence in manufacturing. Companies must be nominated to be considered for the award. Grainger looks at multiple key elements:

Safety and safety culture for employees

Community involvement

Organization and implementation of lean, clean manufacturing facilities

Improvements in the manufacturing environment

Overall impression of the organization

“This is a prestigious honor for us, not just because it’s MPW’s first time winning it, but because of the number of customers Grainger has,” said MPW Director of Procurement Bill Boring. “There were almost 5,000 nominations for this award and we were one of only 13 selected this year.”

Grainger’s Regional Sales Vice President Michael Setlock, Account Manager Tim Kughn and District Sales Manager Brandi O’Harra presented the award — along with about 300 doughnuts — at MPW’s Corporate Headquarters in Hebron. Accepting for MPW were Boring, Director of Philanthropy & Community Engagement Kristen Black and Human Resources Director Jim Tyznik.

Kughn cited a commitment to safety and a generosity to the community — evidenced by MPW’s involvement with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus, its donation of cleaning services to Lakewood High School and transportation of an ICG crew to a flood-devastated West Virginia business — as reasons MPW earned the honor.

“We’re really honored to be recognized by a company as prominent as Grainger,” said Black. “We appreciate that they noticed the outreach projects that mean so much to us. We’re looking forward to a great future with Grainger.”

Kughn said MPW displays many more attributes that caught Grainger’s eye.

“It is rare to find a family-owned-and-operated organization of this size that gives back in so many ways,” he said. “MPW exemplifies what great looks like and for that reason, is well deserving of recognition as a manufacturer who cares.”
